HOLLAND, MI (WHTC News) - The National Science Foundation apparently likes Hope College.

The Holland-based institution of higher education announced yesterday the landing of a 347 thousand-dollar grant to support the renovation and creation of multiple physics and engineering research laboratories within VanderWert and Van Zoeren halls. It brings the number of such NSF endowments for the spring and summer months to five for Hope, making it the most popular among undergraduate schools nationwide. The money is bolstering faculty-student research efforts in biology, chemistry, computer science, mathematics and physics.

Meanwhile, a ceremonial ground-breaking was held yesterday at Grand Valley State’s Grand Rapids campus on a four-story, 110-thousand square-foot building that will house the school’s business college. The 40 million-dollar L. William Seidman Center is slated for completion in two years, with the first classes set for the fall of 2013. In an effort to complete a 25 million-dollar private fundraising drive for the structure, Amway co-founder Rich DeVos and his wife Helen announced a challenge grant program that, for the next six weeks, would match dollar-for-dollar any contribution made.
