KALAMAZOO (WKZO) -- Kalamazoo voters will likely be asked to renew both the county and city transportation millages in August and November, as efforts to combine those tax levies under one transit authority have been temporarily delayed by taxpayer opposition.
Authority Chair Linda Teeter said this will ensure the buses keep rolling, if a second attempt to pass an authority millage fails.
That almost wasn’t the case when voters rejected a county-wide millage in 2008, as part of the effort to set up the authority.
Teeter said they will likely hold a third vote next year to set up the authority, when they have a clear concensus on taxing districts.
It’s taken the better part of a decade to launch the Transit Authority, and rather than rush it, Teeter said they hope to get it right this time.
